Start FWDL

Use this feature to download a register firmware image .zip from your mobile device to an ERT, meter, or module. The new firmware image is on your mobile device from a recent synchronization with the FDM Tools server. Field Tools prevents replacing newer firmware with older firmware.

The firmware download can require as long as 60-70 minutes to complete unless the endpoint supports high speed mode firmware download. During this time, and until the firmware download completes, the Windows desktop must remain active. The screen on your Windows device must not be allowed to lock.

Note: High speed firmware download typically completes in 15 minutes. For more information, see About high speed firmware download.

Important! If your Windows desktop goes into sleep mode or locks before the firmware download process completes, the firmware download fails and you must restart the Start FWDL command.

When the firmware image transfer completes, Field Tools verifies the transfer status and displays it on the screen Image Verification Successful.

The only supported hardware configuration for performing Start FWDL is with a Windows mobile device (that meets Field Tools minimum requirements) that is paired to the IMR using a USB connection. For more information, see Minimum requirements.

Endpoint ID

Type or scan the ID number of the device you are working with. This number is assigned to each device at the time of manufacture. It uniquely distinguishes the device from all others.

Current Device Firmware

Field Tools queries the module for its current firmware version and displays it during the workflow.

Firmware

Use the dropdown menu to select the firmware file to download to the module.

Note: If you select a firmware version older than what the module is currently running, Field Tools will not allow you to continue the download. A message window appears indicating that you must select a newer firmware version.
